My Etsy Shop

‘Tis the season for shopping for that perfect Holiday gift. Well, I’ve decided to give Etsy another go, as last year I just didn’t have the time to market my shop. Not that I have any more free time, but I’ve learned to gradually add things to your Etsy shop to draw customers. So, I will be adding items gradually. Right now, I have added capes and ponchos, that I designed a few years ago. They are priced affordable and are uniquely deisnged. I will also be posting on facebook. So please visait often as you might just find what you need.

Synchronicity??

After viewing the winners of IQF, Houston, on quilt that won an award by a well known artist, took me aback. It looked very simialr to my “digilily”. After emails from the artist, she took different steps than I did, but in my opinion the end results are very similar. It’s not an exact copy, so there were no copyright violations. We both worked from our own photos and both worked them digitally. Was it synchronicity or serendipity??? A debate could go on and on.

Opening Reception

My opening reception was on June 12 at the Praire Center for the Arts in Schaumburg, Il. It’s a lovely place to have an exhibit and hold a reception. Not only is the space nice, but the outside grounds are beautiful. I had a fair turnout, mostly friends and family. I haven’t figured out if this is normal or how does one get art gallery reps and dealers to your opening? I sent out 100 invites, had an interview on youtube, posted a press release in the local papers. At least my name did get out there and best of all I sold 2 pieces; “My Quantitative Easing” and “Windy City”. They were small and framed. I think that appealed to many of my visitors. Here are some picures.

The exhibit will continue until June 29. Again, it’s at the Priaire Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg CT, Schaumburg, IL.

Installation

Well yesterday finally came. I installed my first major solo show at the Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Rd. Schaumburg, IL.. With the help of our friends Gary and Trina, the process went fast and smoothly. It really helps having more than 2 people to help with eyeballing to make sure everything is right height and appealling. Here are some pictures:

After we were finished installing, I was surprised by a media team who wanted to interview me for the town’s local TV station. I was told it would also be on utube. Being unprepared for an interview is not easy to make a viewer understand why he/she should come to my exhibit. As a lessson, I learned to be prepared to answer questions to promote my work. You never know when some one wants to inquire about a process or your background. It would have been easy to say read my website, but that’s not what the media team was looking for. I didn’t even have a hair brush!

For the reception, some family embers have offered to do the appetizer/sweet table so I don’t have to worry about that. That was so wonderful of them to offer. Well, if you come to my openenig on June 12, 2011 from 2-4pm, please introduce yourself and say “hello”. I’d love to hear comments about my work. Thank you.

SOLO SHOW POSTCARD

Well, I’ve been designing my postcard for my first big solo show. Deciding on whether to call myself a Contemporary Quilt Artist, Fiber Artist, or not stating either was a difficult choice. I didn’t want to turn anyone away who is not into fiber or quilt art. I sort of wanted to keep people guessing as to what the show is all about, but when the final decision came, I decided to call myself “Contemporary Fiber Artist”. I called the show “On The Wall” because of all of the comments I receive, “My grandmother makes quilts too.” And granny’s bed quilts are probably beautiful. It’s just not what I do.

So save the date. Here’s my postcard. It’s over-sized and I’m going to mail it in an envelope to deter anyone from accidentally tossing in the garbage as junk mail.
